"FEAR NOT"

Fear is not an unfamiliar emotion, we hear of those who suffer from various phobias such as :-

    Acrophobia, fear of high places
    Claustrophobia, fear of closed places
    Nyctophobia, fear of the dark
    Ochlophobia, fear of crowds
    Xenophobia, fear of strangers
    Zoophobia, fear of animals
    Agoraphobia, fear of open/public places

I'm sure all of us have been afraid at some time. Perhaps asking for the light to be left on all night, wanting company before we go outside, making a hasty retreat when we see a dog, or making a loud noise when we see a mouse.

Sometimes people display fear and there seems to be no good reason, the danger is simply imagined. At other times real dangers lead to worry and anxiety and matter what we do the fear remains. Many times in the Bible we read the words "fear not". The alternative offered is to trust God. Take Psalm 27.

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? ...4 One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple. 5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.

The Psalmist is clear about three important things.
(i) He speaks of God as his Saviour. Do you know His forgiveness from sin through what Jesus did?
(ii) He knows that the strength for life does not come from within but from God. Are you daily trusting in God for the strength to live for Him?
(iii) His desire is to be in the presence of God. Is that your greatest desire each day?

It then follows that the Psalmist experiences the security of God's protection and loudly declares "Whom shall I fear?" And so can all of God's people.

As you read your Bible look out for that phrase "fear not", even better look to the Saviour and let him put a new song in your heart.

      My life is in You, Lord,
      My strength is in You, Lord,
      My hope is in You, Lord,
      In You, its in You.

      I will praise You with all of my life;
      I will praise You with all of my strength.
      With all of my life,
      With all of my strength;
      All of my hope is in You.
